into its own. The Pulaski chapter was just the beginning. In 1867, a local Klan group sprung up in Nashville and many of the organizations leaders had been a part
of the Confederate Army ("Ku Klux Klan," 2010). During the Civil War, the south supported slavery for the most part so it is not a surprise that some of the
more prejudiced members of the southern military would form this terrorist organization. The first Grand Wizard of the KKK was Nathan Forest who served as a General in the
Civil War ("Ku Klux Klan," 2010). After the creation of these chapters, Klansman would begin to torture and kill both black people and their supporters ("Ku Klux Klan," 2010). KKK
was instrumental in restoring white leadership not only in Tennessee but in North Carolina and Georgia as well ("Ku Klux Klan," 2010). While members would engage in murder and mayhem
and that is horrific, the organization was also legitimate as it displayed its colors more as a political entity than a terrorist faction. In other words, there are rogue parts
of the KKK that violate the law, but KKK was never vocal about its destruction. In fact, it claims to be a peaceful organization. An important political agenda for KKK
was to stop black people from being able to vote ("Ku Klux Klan," 2010). During the time period, Republicans urged President Grant to act against the KKK and in
