hard to read in terms of its content, and a novel that has no real happy ending. But, it is a very realistic novel that cannot be ignored, even though it is almost 100 years since its writing. The following paper provides a biography of Sinclair and a quick analysis of the work. Sinclair and "The Jungle" Upton Sinclair was born to a fairly wealthy family in Baltimore, Maryland in 1878. He was, from the time he was quite young, intrigued by writing and was very successful in his writing even at an early age. When he was done with going to New York City College he was actually putting out several novels or stories a month, most of which were selling (Upton Sinclair). However, he was still not well known. "Uptons big break came in 1906 when he published a book called, The Jungle. As a writer this is where Sinclair gained most of his fame. This book gave him not only fame, but it also led to the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906" (Upton Sinclair). In essence, Sinclair wrote this novel because he was a man who was deeply concerned with the social and economical conditions of the nation. He was a man who would become incredibly active in the socialist movement and clearly a man who fought for the rights of many different people in relationship to labor conditions. In essence he wished to make a cry for socialism in this work and what was achieved was change in the labor industry. "The Jungle" is a story of an immigrant family. "He follows Jurgiss Lithuanian immigrant family into the dirty apartments and meat packing factories of Chicago. There, they suffer the loss of all their dreams of success and freedom in America" ...
