is very competitive, and if we apply models such as Porters five forces then the environment will be one with large number of macro factors, high costs, and with the
recent decreases in oil process over the last decade, despite the slight recovery, the profits have been relatively low. We have also seen many changes in the industry that reflect
the high level of competition and the need to develop effecting systems as well as economies of scope and scale. The move of companies with mergers and acquisitions may be
seen as the rationalisation of a mature sector. Companies that have an international status such as Mobil need to compete, with systems playing an important role. To this end a
new system was introduce to make ordering of oil more simple. The process was not immediately successful, indeed when we look at this case there are three attempts at implement
an IT system to facilitate savings and increase efficiently. Here we can consider how Mobil managed to find the right solution and system, and why this system was right, whereas
former systems had failed to be adopted or achieve the required level of efficiency and cost saving. Mobil had the aim of finding a system that would simplify the
ordering procedures and manage the buy back system that they had in place. The idea was to improve communication and therefore ordering efficiency as well as reducing costs. This took
three systems, therefore, we will consider each of these in turn and then we may consider why they had the observed outcome.
The first system was introduced in an almost half hearted way, it does not appear to have been tested before it was rolled out into the dealerships, and the resilience
