was Archibald Bowman who in an article in May 1938 in the Journal of Accountancy stated; "....investments have been valued at the sale price of the day, And the
auditors certificate shows everything O.K.; One asset is omitted - and its worth I want to know, The asset is the value of the men who run the show"
A good firm can still fail if it has poor management and many failing firms have been saved by good management. However the value
is not limited to the management, there are also many firms where there is a competitive advantage that is based in the employees and their knowledge, labour or skills rather
than the physical assets. Therefore this intrinsic value may also be referred to as human capital. The concept of this intrinsic value;
value being added to a company in excess of the physical resources is not new. We can argue that this started with the idea of human capital. Even motivation theories
from people such as Taylor and Mayo and the way they thought the best value may be obtained from human labour to the more economic models used to describe and
illustrate the way in which the value of that labour can be enhanced. Management input can be seen as an extension form this, and the workshop floor labour will usually
