or family situation, confidentiality becomes more complicated right away for the simple fact that the information a client divulges can be reiterated not just by the counselor, but by any
of the other group members. For this reason, the counselor in a group or family setting needs to explain the importance of confidentiality and secure the commitment of all group
members to keeping the confidentiality of one anothers information. As in a private situation, this is key to building mutual trust. 2. Being involved in a
clients lawsuit in a marriage or family counseling scenario is sometimes unavoidable because of the extent to which information from counseling could impact those scenarios. For instance, individuals going through
a divorce might call upon a marriage counselor to attest that they gave the relationship a fair try. However, counselors should limit their involvement in lawsuits as much as possible,
for fiscal and professional reasons. TO do this, some counselors make use of contracts with clients that absolve the counselor of legal responsibility in cases where a lawsuit might normally
occur; a key example of this is "no-suicide" contracts wherein counselors are absolved from legal responsibility for the suicide of a client, and cannot be sued by that clients family
