a transition of time, a transition that we as humans have been obsessed with analyzing, categorizing, and lamenting. Middle life, in particular, has been the focus of those who
feel compelled to both describe it and explain it. This obsession spills over into not just the professional medical and psychiatric literature but also into fiction. In "The
Interruption of Everything", for example, author Terry McMillan details the life and times of protagonist Marilyn Grimes, life and times that are worthy of analysis to figure out both the
realities and fiction of the so-called midlife crisis. McMillans "The Interruption of Everything" reveals details of Marilyns life that hold many
similarities to some of the circumstances of our own lives or those of our mothers, our fathers, our siblings, friends, or acquaintances. Marilyns life, in many ways, has unfolded
in a way that is familiar to many women. She has, in her words, reached the point in her life where she "cant remember when the dreams stopped being
real and reality wiped out the dreams". Marilyns marriage has somehow transitioned from exhilarating to blas?. Her husband is, on first consideration at least, obsessed with little other
than work and golf. Marilyns children are grown and she has little to do in her life other than go to work, return home, and then go back to
