between the Arab culture and other world cultures. Globalization has magnified this situation, since the borders of the world are becoming increasingly less defined. In this way, the
Arab world struggles with both its own identity as well as its perceived identity in order to institute solutions that will allow them to retain their identity while simultaneously participating
in the world market. Globalization has had a tremendous impact on the entire world, and clearly this phenomena continues to grow
and change the way the world operates (Nasser, 1999). And yet, within the Arab world are rich traditions and beliefs to which the Arab people, wherever they may live,
are devoutly devoted (Nasser, 1999). Interestingly, the very technologies and products that have perpetuated globalization have also served to strengthen the ties that bind within Arab cultures (Nasser, 1999).
For instance, while communications has served to sever some relations with Arab countries and other non-Arab countries, these same communications abilities have also allowed for Arabs themselves to communicate
more efficiently and with greater clarity amongst one another (Nasser, 1999). Therefore, globalization represents the proverbial double-edged-sword for many Arab countries.
There is a sort of contradiction between the forces of globalization and the material and moral realities in the Arab World, with consequent disparities, disequilibrium and stagnation in
many aspects of life. It is a situation that demands careful thought and speedy action. Otherwise we will find ourselves lagging far behind other countries, still wrangling over concepts that
had been controversial in the beginning of the 20th century and have been brought to the surface again in order to distract us from fundamental issues that should occupy the
