As a global society aid is given to the weakest and most vulnerable countries in a number of formats, including development projects. The aim of development projects is to promote
development in order to create sustainable improvements. The economic aspects of improvements are usually the goals as these are able to support other types of improvements, such as social and
health goals (Asher et al, 2002). However, it can also be argued that despite the need for aid and the condition which are improved there are influences of policy and
strategy of the aid givers in the way that the development projects are designed. To consider if and how far policies and strategies are influential we can look at
the reasons why and how development projects take place. A major body that promotes development and aids with the funding of projects is the International Monetary Fund. This body can
be seen as having a great impact on development projects, it is a major influence. However the foundation of the body and its guiding principles are reflective of the underlying
political and economic policies and strategies of many powerful and influence developed nations. By looking at its development and operations we can start to argue for the influence of policies
and strategies in development programs, after this we can start to consider the extent of these influences in the way that the development projects designed.
