assess the way that the external environment may be an influence. The role of planning in any business is essential, to be successful a business need to be
managed with the knowledge of where it wants to be, the way it wants to compete and the way that the objectives will be reached. A plan will include a
goal, as well as plans for the way that the goals will be realised, usually in a step by step basis. Planning is important fore the management to determine the
strategy of affirm, but it is not just as activity for the senior management in determining strategy, it may be seen throughout all levels of an organisation (Thompson, 2007). The
strategy, once decided does not self implement, plans need to be developed at all levels, from the long term step by step plans to implement the strategy to the lower
levels planning, such as the scheduling of staff and the issue such as HRM policies and how budgets are going to be met. To consider the way planning takes place
at all levels the process itself and the approaches can be examined. Mintzberg (et al, 2008) looks at the classical approach where there are separate stages and different approaches.
