In regards to education, Dewey was regarded as a pragmatist, and was therefore concerned with interaction, reflection and experience in the educational arena. This unique blend of concentration resulted in a very suggestive form of education. In the final analysis, there can be no denying that Deweys form of education was historic in its influence, and this is evidenced in many ways. Dewey was quite radical in his thoughts for that time, and believed essentially in what could be referred to as interactive naturalism (Life and Works of John Dewey). Dewey distinguished three phases in the process of inquiry (Life and Works of John Dewey). First, you begin with a problem, then you isolate the parameters of the problem, and then the third phase is reflective, and this is where ideas, theories, suppositions and the like are entertained (Life and Works of John Dewey). Dewey disagreed with other philosophers of his time who basically believed that the reflection stage should be isolated (Life and Works of John Dewey). In other words, Dewey believed that people learn best by doing, rather than rote learning, which was the current philosophy of his day (American Philosopher John Dewey). Since the inception of Deweys educational theories and systems, many have gone on to draw from his foundation. This is evident in the works of such notable educators and writers as Coyle, Kolb, Lindeman, and Rogers, all of whom were significantly influenced by Dewey (John Dewey).
