The paper starts by looking at the influences that have caused and supported globalization assessing the way in which these have impacted on the international economy. The paper then goes on to look specifically at the way in which the international political economy can be seen as contributing and interacting with the Euro crisis which began emerging in the Eurozone in 2010. However, it is in the last few centuries that the pace of globalization with the twentieth century and advances in technology, transportation and communication driving forward the pace of globalization. This is seen with the way that between 1950 and 1994 global output increased by more than five times, however the level of trading increased disproportionately with 14 the amount o trade taking place in 1994 compared to 1950 (Trade point, 2003). This accelerated even more in the later part of the twentieth century, between 1950 and 2002 and while output increased by seven times, international trade increased twenty three fold (IMF, 2010). International trade cannot fail to have an impact on the global political economy; it increases the contact and communications between nations as well as creating their interdependence in terms of economic relationships. When looking at international relations and the way in which these have been impacted by economic interdependency this increased reliance is easily apparent in a number of ways. A recession and credit crunch that sees the problem of one county spread with a domino effect in the international environment is one example. Furthermore, the role of international organizations has be seen as increasingly important with recent financial crisis seeing the need for countries in dire straights receiving support in order to stabilise the international economy. With international effects of the crisis and a requirement for international support it is unavoidable that there will be a direct impact on the international relationships.
