with fans who download their music on Napster or from some other website. People post their pictures, create websites, and participate in "reality" television where they achieve instant fame or
blow away classmates, only to be plastered on the front pages of newspapers worldwide. While ordinary people can achieve fame to some extent today, the superstars are the ones who
seem larger than life, act as role models and become heroes to the children of the twenty-first century. In some way, that is frightening, but in other ways, it allows
society to examine new generations as they arise. Generations have always been tied to their idols, and this usually comes in the form of rock or pop stars. In fact,
every generation seems to cling to their brand of music, giving larger than life attributes to their favorite musicians. Christensen (2001) says: " Lots of people might consider Brad Pitt
and Julia Roberts their idols, but theyre not role models in the same way rock stars are" (p.1). Still, some actors and ball players do reach rock star status. Madonna
