separation of church and state. In nations around the world, religion has been used to justify heinous acts such as ethnic cleansing. By and large, it is utilized merely to
prod the people to the way of an autocratic leader. When delving into history, and particularly into Chinese and Japanese history, one sees that this in fact may be the
case in respect to Confucianism. Yet, there have been significant differences in terms of how things evolved in China and Japan. Some
might suggest that the emperor in China, as opposed to his counterpart in Japan, was not really expendable. Murphey (2000) has addressed this problem and seems to lean towards this
