industry and agriculture has proved to be a good way to run an economy. That of course does not mean that significant exploitation is ethical (Russell, 1990). However, it could
mean that the depletion of resources would stop economic growth and so, villages with farming communities would fare better in the long term (Russell, 1990). The sustainable society is indeed
a notion that has some merit. After all, relying on big machinery is not sound for the long term. There are bound to be difficulties and there are now. There
is an overabundance of food in certain countries while people are starving in others. Such a situation only proves that mass production does not work if there is no suitable
service delivery model. It should first be stated that agriculture is a relatively modern invention. It is something that would only come about after the hunter gatherers were having difficulty.
The idea that one can live in a particular place, and grow food for consumption was unique long ago. Today, such things are taken for granted, but things were very
different centuries ago. In the past, farming was something that was done with certain primitive tools, along with the desire to grow and sell crops. Farmers worked the land themselves.
They would work for the love of the land and start family businesses. In fact, while the Industrial Revolution would have a significant effect on agriculture, it should be noted
that the change had been progressive. Things continue to change and as family farms are destroyed, large conglomerates take over with heavy machinery. To some extent, this is a product
of the industrial revolution. It is also a product of a changing capitalist system. The nature of the industry before the revolution was rather primitive. Once again, even agriculture was
