Von Huben 5/2010 Please Introduction The Army stresses seven core values that it expects its soldiers to live up to, although
they would be good principles for anyone to emulate. This paper discusses several of them and what they mean to the individual. Discussion The seven Army values are: loyalty, duty,
respect selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage; first a soldier memorizes these values, then he or she learns to live by them. All the values are interconnected because taken
together they create a character that makes people want to serve with him. ("He" and "him" and all the other masculine pronouns also include the women; lets avoid that awkward
he/she and just remember that there are thousands of women in the armed forces serving with honor and distinction.) But perhaps the most important of all is integrity. If someone
has integrity they keep their word, they do what they say they will-in short, they can be trusted. Integrity means that the person will know what the values are, internalize
them and live them every day. A person with integrity does what is morally and ethically right, and that includes learning and implementing the rest of the core values.
Honor is closely allied to integrity and speaks to the behavior. An honorable person can be trusted. He keeps his word and does whats right, even when it costs him
