and while few remember the primaries as well as the battle between Bush and Gore in Florida, the current president was not winning from the outset. One could say, so
much for New Hampshire. But the New Hampshire primary is still a historically important race. How and why did the New Hampshire Democratic and Republican Primaries become key events
in Presidential elections over the last 40 years is rather enigmatic. Sometimes, it acts as a predictor. Certainly, candidates drop out after a negative showing in this state, but
sometimes New Hampshire does not mean much to a candidate who perseveres. George W. Bush is a case in point. Of course, it helps if the media is one ones
side. If not, the future appears hopeless. At least, that is the message that seems to come through in Martin Plissners (1999) book called The Control Room, where it is
suggested that in todays high technology age, television has a great control over what people see in politics. Even if they do not try to mislead, the media sometimes does
this. There are in fact people who do contend that the media has controlled many elections and mainstream media seems to sometimes abandon its journalistic integrity to retain its
emotionally laden commentators. The biased reporting is a problem for politics in America and the economy. And while simple reporting or concentrating on aspects that will excite liberals versus
