Minor characters are an important part of every story. in the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, each and every minor character contributes something important to the theme.
If not, not only would the author not have used them, but they would not have been so memorable. Nurse Ratched for example is a character who is remembered
by most who have read the work or seen the film. Yet, there are other less important characters who are quite relevant to the theme and plot. They serve to
enhance and solidify the authors main points. First, it is important to look at the work in a general sense. One Flew Over
the Cuckoos Nest certainly makes a social statement. With the goings on narrated by a character who may indeed be psychotic himself, this unusual technique sets up interesting prospects for
the reader. The experience of Nurse Ratched, for example, gives one a sense of a stereotypical, sexually repressed matriarch. Her larger than life descriptions give one the idea that, while
there are such people in the world, Ratched is an exemplification of an extreme type. Other things contained in the pages of this major sixties piece is of social significance.
