human nature to put things off unless they are vital and can realize an immediate benefit. The Business Impact Assessment or BIA is a tool which allows an organization
to evaluate operations to see what things might have to be done if a disastrous event were to occur (Landoll, 2006). Disasters should be considered for obvious reasons, but these
plans often fall by the wayside because many executives or managers are driven to profit. Even a non-profit organization will ignore something that does not seem essential in favor of
a pressing problem. Stopping to examine a business or organization to see what might happen if a disaster were to occur seems to be a waste of money, at least
on the surface. Yet, it is very important due to the disasters that have happened in the past and the possibilities that something could occur in the future. Disasters such
as 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina are obvious ones, but even a small tornado ripping through an area or a serious flood could put a business out of commission for at
least a few days. Sometimes these disasters will prohibit the use of the organizations facility and moving is a must. Yet, preparing for disasters in advance is something that is
very important. This way, organizations will be prepared and will be able to implement procedures at a moments notice. For example, if disaster strikes, there can be a hotline set
up or instructions in an employee manual. Perhaps paychecks will be put on hold and an emergency fund used to hand write checks or even distribute cash. Power outages mean
