those who go down with a sinking ship cannot live on salt water alone. Fresh water is all that will do to keep people alive. Without it, human life as
well as other life forms, will dehydrate and eventually die. Even with this knowledge, many people take water for granted. Sure, bottled water leaves the shelves prior to a hurricane
warning or when the government warns of a possible terrorist attack, but as people go through their daily lives , they rarely think about the importance of water.
While people just drink water without thinking, it is somewhat popular in all its forms. One sees athletes drink bottles of water after running or climbing mountains or
playing baseball. People who feel faint will reach for a bottle of water or other liquid. It is something that people--even those who know little about the human body--crave. When
thirsty, water is what is sought and when one has a urinary tract infection, for example, he or she knows they can ward off a full blown attack by flooding
their bodies with the substance. While doctors recommend water for a variety of ailments, and not just UTIs, medical professionals make claims beyond what is generally accepted. For example,
Dr. F. Batmanghelidj (1995) claims that water is the cure for all disease from asthma to arthritis to colitis. In truth, many diseases are helped by water. Part
of the claim is that human beings simply do not get enough water and by the time they are thirsty, they are probably already dehydrated (Batmanghelidj , 1995). The jury
is out on how much good plain water can do and whether or not the slightly salted water that Batmanghedlidj recommends is really helpful. Still, the concept that people do
