but of course, the legislation encompasses more than this niche. It involves any subject where women are, and where they are not. Indeed, it sees to it that women get
the same opportunities that do men, and this occurs within athletics as well as in academic subjects. Although many consider Title IX as being directly related
to sports, another issue that seems to gain attention is sexual harassment. The legislation protects women against unscrupulous students and professors, making sure that the environment is suitable for co-ed
life. The existence of Title IX is significant as its reach is broad. Title IX is important for all educational institutions from high school to four year universities to the
two year community colleges of focus here. In delving into examples at community colleges, and comparing and contrasting the individual concerns with other types of schools, it seems that community
colleges must begin to pay attention to something that only four year universities had to worry about. For too long, community colleges have not considered the devastating effects of a
