even an hour, late to a party or a friends house is acceptable. For others being early is important in all situations. And, perhaps all people accept anyone being a
few minutes late to any given appointment or event. However, in the military punctuality is crucial in all aspects for a variety of reasons. The following paper examines the importance
of punctuality in the military. The Importance of Punctuality in the Military One author notes that, "Scheduling the work day is
one of the most important duties any leader in the Army or the Armed Forces for that matter, tackle each and every day" (Roche, 2006). In many respects that average
civilian does not necessarily see how it is as important as all that. Being a few minutes late, by many peoples standards, is quite acceptable, especially when one considers a
persons watch or clock could easily be off by a few minutes. However, there are many reasons why timing things, planning ones time, and being punctual are crucial in the
military. Roche (2006) first notes that, "Being at the right place at the right time for any member of the Armed forces
is extremely essential to the defense of the entire United States of America." Again, one could well argue that when planning any sort of military activity, such as beginning a
war or a defense concern, being exactly on time is not crucial. However, if the military cannot act as a cohesive unit, able to act punctually at any given moment,
able to coordinate activities through setting times, then the security of the nation could well be at risk. It is imperative that the military act punctually with regards to all
