design begins. Not only is appearance considered, but the ease of opening the package is also a factor in the final design (Tschohl, 1996). When it comes to packaged goods,
research, advertising, marketing, and packaging are inextricably linked (Doyle, 1996). Yet, when all is said and done, package design will make or break a product. It will either propel
the product to a top echelon, or it will set up its demise. One example of this is Gillettes Venus razor. There are various types of razors offered in
stores but each is packaged in an attractive, colorful, case that contains both cardboard and plastic. The plastic bubble that surrounds the traditional Venus razor is one that likely appeals
to women. The product itself comes in colors, but the packaging also contains bright colors that are recognizable to the consumer. There is no mistaking this product for another brand.
The shape, size and coloration of the package is unique to the brand. The primary color used is a light blue, but pink, orange and green are also employed, and
the color of the package will depend upon the choice of razor. Yet, all colors are rather bright and use a certain hue that is clearly attached to Venus. The
lettering similarly is clearly associated with the brand. Another example of a good product design that has sold the product is Laughing Cow cheese. It is somewhat of a
unique product, even though there are many cheeses on the market. That said, there are few competitors. Those that have featured the soft cheeses on supermarket shelves have done so
