John F. Kennedy. Why have these individuals stood out amongst the others? What makes them more respectable and more influential? A student writing on this subject might want to
suggest that the answer to those questions are not easy, but there is a common denominator in evaluating the life and work of great leaders. That is, they pay attention
to human rights. Why would the matter of human rights be important to some philosophers? The reason is multitude, but by and large, it seems that politicians, philosophers
and religious leaders who sincerely care about the people, and about human rights, can engage the public. Such individuals are looked at as great leaders and this has been proven
time and time again. Thomas Jefferson for example has been viewed as a great man and he was certainly concerned about human rights. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in their
Communist Manifesto put the individual above the government and was most concerned about the fate of the human being. Finally, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin was a Communist leader who believed
he was doing the right thing for the people. It is easy to say that leaders support human rights, but it is another thing to prove it. Perhaps the
proof that Jefferson supported human rights is right in the Constitution itself. Jefferson contributed the following statement: " We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created
equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness-That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted
