day Americans felt they were all but untouchable in relationship to global threats. But, with that day came the realization that the land of the free was perhaps too relaxed
and lenient in its security. Many argue that the cost of homeland security is not worth it, for the money could well be spent elsewhere. Others argue that the security
is a tiresome inconvenience for many in many different aspects. However, the truth is that America has been very lucky so far and national security, homeland security, is something that
should have been much more a part of American life from the beginning. As such the cost and implementation of national security on the homefront is surely worthwhile and
necessary. The following paper examines different perspectives concerning this particular issue, arguing that homeland security is not a waste of time and effort. The Need for Homeland Security
In first examining the importance and necessity of homeland security we present the views of one individual who speaks of the threats, and the necessary involvement of the individual in
the development of better security. "As amply demonstrated by the events of the last year, the health of U.S. industry is dependent on security - the security of our borders,
our transportation systems, our mail systems, and our computer networks. At the same time, our security has never been more dependent on a vibrant private sector working in partnership with
government at all levels" (Juster, 2002). In further understanding the complex nature of the terrorism that may well threaten our society, and thus better understand why security is
