Salingers Franny and Zooey the reader is presented with very different families and very different perspectives on the importance of family. The following paper examines the role and importance of family in these two novels. The Importance of Family in To Kill a Mockingbird and Franny and Zooey As mentioned, these two stories are very different, yet they both illustrate the importance of family. Lees novel is more of an innocent story with elements that are deep and relevant. In the case of Salingers novel the story is far more complex and spiritual but yet still offers the simple nature of the power of family. In a brief synopsis of the two, as it relates to family, Lees is a novel about a father and his children. The father, Atticus, is a lawyer and he is fighting, in a racially divided town, for an African American individual as he raises his two young children. It is a story that is told from the perspective of the daughter, Scout, who is still a child. Salingers story is about the struggles of a brother and a sister as they try to uncover the meaning of life, the spiritual nature of life, and many other deep concerns that are often very philosophical. It is far more complex of a story and family is perhaps far more subtle. In first looking at To Kill a Mockingbird one sees that the narrator, Scout, is perhaps coming of age and beginning to notice things around her in a new way.
