Numerous factors interact to influence an individuals behavior. This is especially true among adolescents who have not fully matured either physically or psychologically. Some of these factors
are genetic and physiological, others are environmental. While most often the genetic and physiological aspects which control behavior are not factors which can be easily altered, environmental determinants of
behavior can be changed prior to the adverse impacts being rendered on adolescent psychological development. Behavioral disorders are a very serious concern for our nations young people. Early
identification and intervention for students with behavioral disorders is critical if the needs of that student are to be most effectively addressed. Parental involvement is a critical component of
this process. Adolescents today face more threats to the safety, health and welfare than they have at any other time in
our history. This is due to a number of factors but in most cased revolves around declining societal mores. While at one time activities such as sexual promiscuity,
drug and alcohol use, and violence were definitely frowned upon by society, its seems that today these activities are condoned if not encouraged. Activities such as these lead to
a number of behavioral problems and in some cases can lead to either voluntary or involuntary death of the adolescent or others in his or her association. Apparent societal
acceptance of such activities weighs heavily on an adolescents psychological development and lays the road for that adolescents behavior both now and in the future. Parental involvement is obviously
