people dream when they sleep has been questioned for centuries. Some have even wondered why people sleep. Other than just curiosity, the issues of dreams and sleep are important in studying human physiology. Because people speed a large amount of their time asleep, and because dreaming is an important part of that sleep, it is necessary to study both sleep and dreams to find out how they affect people. Everything that happens physically, mentally, and emotionally affects man/woman. This includes the state of sleep and dreams. Although the dream world is vast and seemingly endless, it is a worthy area for exploration. Sleep is an important part of life for every man, woman, and child. It takes considerable time from doing other activities, because humans spend one-third of their life asleep. While they are spending that time in an asleep state, humans dream. One must have sleep; it is an essential function of the body. In fact, sleep deprivation is harmful. Within each healthy person is the capacity of the dream state. It must be understood in order to better understand the human physiology and psychology. Understanding why people dream, may help understand why people sleep. Since the time of Aristotle, Plato, and Hippocrates, dreams have held a certain fascination. Freud saw dreams as the guardian of sleep, and in a manner of speaking, he was correct in his assumption. More recent research into REM sleep, which stands for rapid eye movement, shows that it is necessary.
