meaning of an essay. The way that civilian life appears is quite different to someone who has made a career in the military. Hence, for someone who is entering the
military, he or she will have to get used to certain protocols and requirements. The military life is not easy, but many find it rewarding. First, it is important
to understand just what military customs and courtesies mean and what they entail. A custom is merely an established practice ("Customs, Courtesies, and Traditions"). Many are familiar with the term
as they realize that within the scope of their own family or culture, they abide by certain customs or traditions. It might be customary for someone who comes from Ireland
to celebrate St. Patricks Day by cooking a special dinner or if someone is attached to certain Middle Eastern religions, face or head coverings are often customary. Sometimes, customs are
tied to religion and sometimes they are just a part of the culture. The military is not a religious organization but it is regimented. The rules that come from the
military are expected to be obeyed to the letter and not just as a part of an optional custom. Still, certain habits are considered customs. Customs also include positive
activities as well as the prohibition of negative ones ("Customs, Courtesies, and Traditions"). Authors explain: "All established arts, trades, and professions, all races of people, all nations, and even different
