to be punctual. Discussion A person who is late for a meeting, date, appointment, class or other event sends all kinds of messages, none of them positive. People who arrive
late, especially if they dont bother to call to explain, are implying that the dont care about the event, they have little or no respect for themselves, and that they
have no regard for others time, since they are wasting it (The importance of punctuality). The message is "My time is more valuable than yours." Examples from an IT
staffing agency illustrate why its vital to be on time. One programmer, Tom, was late for an interview, though he called and said he was running late (The importance of
punctuality). Unfortunately, he called at 10.15 about a 10.30 appointment, but didnt show up until 12.45 (The importance of punctuality). When he did arrive, the person he was supposed to
see was in another meeting; Tom became angry when this person refused to stop the interview to deal with him (The importance of punctuality). Toms tardiness does several things:
it ruins the original schedule and keeps the interviewer waiting; it disrupts the meeting that is going on when he does arrive; and it creates hard feelings all around. The
interviewer is under no obligation to stop the second interview to deal with Tom, but that is clearly what he expects will happen. When it does not, he becomes angry.
If the interviewer does decide to deal with Tom again - which is an open question at this point - it means he will have to somehow fit Tom into
