and then turn it in as their own. This seems simple and harmless to many students, but it is just one example of plagiarism and of academic dishonesty. The following
paper examines the importance of academic honesty. The Importance of Academic Honesty It should be understood that this essay, if it were turned in by the student purchasing
it, would not belong to the student. The student who would turn this in as their own paper would be committing plagiarism and thus be cheating, and would thus be
demonstrating academic dishonesty. What this means is that they are taking credit for something they did not do, getting a grade on a paper they did not write, and ultimately
not researching and learning, on their own, what constitutes academic honesty and dishonesty. Purchasing and turning in someone elses paper is just one way of being academically dishonest. For
example, a student could write a paper, and then use most or all of that same paper for a very different class. In this instance they would essentially be plagiarizing
themselves, not doing the work separately for a different class. This is also a way of demonstrating that the student has not researched, thought, or learned but taken the easy
route and that easy route is ultimately the path of academic dishonesty. There are many ways the student can be dishonest on an academic level and there are many
reasons why it is important to be honest from an academic standpoint. When a student does their own work, behaving honorably and doing their utmost best to be academically honesty
