to the institution of education. The following paper examines academic honesty and the importance of academic honesty. The Importance of Academic Honesty
There is a great deal of evidence in the academic world today that indicates that most students do cheat at some time in their educational career (Staats; Hupp; Hagley,
2008; 142). Interestingly enough, however, "Because many students report cheating in college and academic reviews of misconduct are rare, researchers might argue that institutions are providing opportunities and rewards for
cheating and a fertile training ground for cheating by various methods" (Staats; Hupp; Hagley, 2008; 142). This is a very serious concern and further indicates the importance of knowledge about
academic honesty and the importance of such honesty. One author notes how, "You are guilty of cheating whenever you present as your
own work something that you did not do. You are also guilty of cheating if you help someone else to cheat" (UWs Faculty Resource on Grading, 2009). One of the
most obvious forms of dishonesty involves plagiarism, whether it be intentional or otherwise. It appears as though the most common type of cheating, or plagiarism, involves using someone elses words
or work and treating it as ones own (UWs Faculty Resource on Grading, 2009). For example, this essay, if turned in as the students own work would clearly constitute plagiarism
