vision, the mission and the strategy are determined. They are all interlinked and interdependent, but there is not a single order in which they will occur. In an organization there
may be an initial vision, but this is not necessarily the vision statement. The different aspects of strategy, mission and vision will all be considered individually to show how they
fit together and are aligned. It may be argued that an organisation may have a strategy that starts with a mission statement
and then develops from this, or a strategy may lead to a mission statement. The vision statement may be seen as supplementing and helping to explain this. In order to
consider how these concepts may be useful for the way in which the aims and goals of a non profit making organization such as a church can be realized it
is necessary to look at these concepts, how they may be defined and how they may be used, including how they have been used by other organizations.
Strategy is considered first as this is the manifestation of the way vision and mission may be seen, it may also lead to and influence
vision and mission. A dictionary definition of strategy reads "1. The art of war. 2a, The management of an army or armies
in a campaign..... 3, A plan of action or policy in business or politics" (Oxford Concise English Dictionary 2004:1205). When considering strategic management the validity of applying the former definitions
