Because they are central to a profitable company, it makes sense to: hire the right people, build their skills through training, and provide good compensation and a work environment that retains talented people (Whizlabs, 2005). Large surveys have shown that only about half of the employees think their company does a good job of providing training they need to excel at their jobs (Johnson, 2004). Surveys have also found that only about half of the employees believe their organizations give them the opportunity to learn new skills (Johnson, 2004). Studies have also found there is a direct link between the quality of training and job satisfaction (Johnson, 2004). Johnson (2004) reported that 85 of employees whose companies "offered a formal training and development" were also satisfied with their jobs. The same study revealed that 75 percent of employees who said they dissatisfied with their job reported their company did not offer training (Johnson, 2004). The Need for Training Sarvadi (2005) said: "In todays economy, if your business isnt learning, then youre going to fall behind. And a business learns as its people learn." Yet, many companies do not see the need for training, at least in terms of the need for the company to provide the training (Sarvadi, 2005).
