democratic governments in these countries. Democratic rights, then, are linked to the paying of taxes, and this is supported by the current literature and a study of different democratic
countries and their systems of taxation. INTRODUCTION The link between economy freedom and political freedom is one of the central tenets of the modern democracy.
In essence, it can be argued that the free market economy, which is allows for individual participation, individual gains, and self-promotion within the economic structure, is the only means of
defining individual freedoms and reducing the influence of the government on personal development. Because individual rights are protected in order to maintain the actions of those within the free
market structure, it can be argued that the economic elements that determine this form are also political factors as well. The modern democracy, then, has been based for some
time on the development of the free market economy. At the same time, democracy is also costly, and requires the use of taxation in the funding of democratic
operations. The imposing of taxes on individuals may appear to be a limitation to personal freedoms and a quelling of efforts towards a free market economy, but there has
been a distinct link between taxation and participation in democracy. This suggests that economic interdependence and political freedom, then, create the link between taxation and democracy. While this premise
seems well supported, there are reasons that opposition to this premise has existed since the conceptualization of the free market economy and the integration in the modern democracy. For
