Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 4 page contention that the result of Gregor Mendel's research has not only changed the way people perceive the world, but also the way people live in it. Carefully quantifying his bservations, Mendel was able to come to produce a set of laws that allow us to predict the genetic outcome of specific genetic crosses. Other geneticists have expanded this knowledge and made it an integral component of many aspects of our lives. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

manner in which plants pass on certain characteristics. Using garden peas as his subjects, Mendel made careful observations as to how phenotypic characteristics such as flower color and shape
were passed from combinations of parent plants to their offspring. He followed up on these initial experiments with investigations into the reproductive characteristics of scarlet runner beans, snapdragons, hawkweed
and a variety of other plants. Carefully quantifying his observations, Mendel was able to come to produce a set of laws that allow us to predict the genetic outcome
of specific genetic crosses. Because of his findings this reclusive monk could be considered one of the most influential people of all time. This contention is justified when
we consider the thesis that: the result of Gregor Mendels research has not
only changed the way people perceive the world, but also the way people live in it.
The laws of Mendelian genetics changed many facets of our society. We gained a degree of control over certain aspects of nature that before had been left almost
entirely to chance. We quickly expanded this control beyond agriculture and to numerous other aspects of our lives. Mendelian genetics did indeed change not just the way
we perceive the world but also the way we live in it. Mendels understanding of the complexity of the field of research which
would eventually bear his name was in reality quite limited. It was he, however, that provided the base upon which future scientists could work. Today we have moved
