jest) that the federal government is the nations largest employer - and in this respect at least - virtually each of us has a job. Caught up as most
of us are with our daily-life challenges, few of us probably ever stop very long, or very often to think about the ways in which we are regularly impacted by
the federal government. In fact, if we do give it a thought many of us simply relegate it to yet another of lifes inevitabilities - like death, taxes and
paying the cable bill. However, it can be rather daunting when one looks at the innumerable ways in which we are impacted on a daily basis by this governing
body, or what it would mean to the quality of our lives if we suddenly were not. This essay details a number of these impacting policies, while giving a
cursory overview of the nearly countless forms of intervention by this federal agency. Looking first on the lighter side -- at what we Americans ingest or in other ways put
into our bodies -- the federal government (through the Food and Drug Administration /FDA and the American Medical Association/ AMA and other agencies), regulates/ impacts what is made available
