development, however, there is yet another media revolution; the advent of digital technology. This is currently changing and challenging the media arts, creating new forms, and perspectives as well as
new and increased potential complexity. Examples of the use of digital technology and software on media arts, ranging from individual presentations in museums and galleries to the mass media and
the use of digital technology is visual arts such as the recent films Matrix and Matrix Reloaded and their use of digital technology to bring computer-generated images to the screen.
However, it may be work such as Animatrix that shows the real versatility of some of the software in the media arts. Animatrix is totally computer generated, with the art
form of each animation ranging in style and presentation, some areas emulating the material rather than the virtual world so closely that careful observation is required to separate reality from
the virtual world. In many ways this singular presentation may be seen as a model form which to examine the interaction and impact of digital technology and software on the
media arts. The use of new technology in arts is not new, this has occurred over many centuries, where there are new developments that are soon absorbed into the
artistic culture of the contemporary era. The impressionists were facilitated with the development of sealable lead tubes of paint, meaning that paints could be taken outdoors. In the twentieth century,
