was an important time in history and reveals much about American political history. Further, the documents that started the Cold War essentially were responsible for the Korean War as well. While Vietnam was obviously part of the mentality, the ideology would not so obviously affect later conflicts. The policy of containment had been administrated many times over and sometimes with the use of different language. Although the language changed, the attitudes seem to stay the same. Whatever one thinks about this, containment and other ideas to come from the document NSC-68 had become a part of the American experience. NSC-68 was actually a document authored by Paul Nitze ("NSC-68," 2005). It was written during the Truman administration and it is something that has been declassified and become legendary in respect to the Cold War ("NSC-68," 2005). It was also something not only attributed to the mind of Nitze but to George Frost Kennan, who sent a famous telegram in 1946 ("NSC-68," 2005). In that telegram, Keenan would write an "8,000 word treatise on Russia for his State Department Superiors that was to change the course of U.S. foreign policy" (Safire, 1993, p.146). NSC-68 was later drafted during the spring of 1950 (Gaddis, 1982). What is the NSC-68 exactly? It seems that this report would outline national security strategy during a time that considered the prowess of the Soviet Union ("NSC-68," 2005). Of course, since that time, much has happened. The Cold War is over. It had been learned that the Soviet Union was perhaps weaker than once thought. Yet, the NSC-68 was something that would include a peek at strategy from various points of view including economic, political, militarily and psychological ("NSC-68," 2005).
