statistics prove that many of them do. There is also the debate about what to do about the Mexican immigrants who illegally cross. The Mexican government for instance strongly supports
the idea of illegal-alien amnesty ("Immigration"). This has touched off heated resistance among the populous. Although providing amnesty for illegals to come from Mexico can be helpful in alleviating crime
and preventing a host of social problems, it is not an easy fix. After all, there are finite resources in the U.S. and a great influx of people from Mexico.
Of course, there is debate about how significant Mexican immigration is. One report finds that the concept of large scale Mexican immigration is a recent factor and that in 1970,
for example, the immigrant population had been less than 800,000 ("Immigration"). In the year 2000 however, that figure is put at eight million ("Immigration"). In fact, by the time 1990
rolled around there would be more Mexican immigrants than those who came from all of Europe (Suarez-Orozco 7). With a large scale influx of Mexicans, there are ramifications. It seems
that the Mexican immigrants are less educated and that has an effect on the larger community. Close to two thirds of immigrants from Mexico are not high school graduates ("Immigration").
Thus, Mexican immigrants make up about 22% of high school dropouts who currently work in the American labor force ("Immigration"). Clearly, the effects on America is vast. With many low
level employees willing to work, it hurts the job market to some extent. Teenagers for instance do not have as much opportunity as Mexicans take many of the low level
