in the states is frowned upon from both sides of the debate. The immigration policies the government makes today will have a considerable impact on the immigrant childrens future through
their education. Education is a valuable asset to any child but Hispanic children find getting that education a difficult task whether it is due to ignorance or improper public school
programs. This paragraph helps the student introduce the National Council of La Raza. There are several organizations dedicated to the advancement of Spanish speaking immigrants. These organizations provide services from
English classes to tutors for immigrant children. One such organization is the National Council of La Raza. The NCLR was established in 1968 and enjoys the distinction of being the
countrys largest Hispanic outreach and civil rights advocacy group in the United States (National Council of La Raza, 2010). Active in 41 states including Puerto Rico, the NCLR strives to
improve conditions and opportunities for Hispanics. The NCLR is a multi-faceted organization that takes interest in the civil rights of Hispanic Americans whether they are illegal to the country or
are citizens. Through their advocacy programs the NCLR has been able to engage Hispanics in politics on both the state and federal areas (National Council of La Raza, 2010). Recently,
I was able to interview a local program director for one of NCLRs community based programs. She echoed the concerns to engage the Hispanic community politically as an instrument for
social change. Believing that participating in the political process will empower immigrants and will encourage them to work towards change the program director as well as NCLR holds such programs
