not a "victimless" crime. Discussion There are many types of fraud, much of it perpetrated against individuals, such as the phishing scams that proliferate over the Internet, and the tricksters
that call and try to get people to reveal personal information over the phone, often using "special offers" of vacations and prizes to do so. While individuals must be careful
at all times (a sad comment on our society), we want to concentrate here on the frauds perpetrated against businesses, and the impact they have on society in general. We
also want to address the idea that fraud is somehow a "victimless" crime. The debate on whether such a thing actually exists is ongoing, especially with regard to activities such
as prostitution; here, researching the paper has revealed that almost every source makes this statement immediately: "Fraud is not a victimless crime." There are a number of myths about
fraud, the first being that it is a victimless crime (Victims of fraud, 2006). Other myths include the idea that the "victim is to blame" (Victims of fraud, 2006). People
who became aware that someone else has been defrauded often label them as "gullible," "stupid" or "greedy," and that they got what they deserved (Victims of fraud, 2006). None of
these assumptions is warranted or fair, and public awareness of the dimensions of fraud must be raised in order to refute these ideas (Victims of fraud, 2006). A third
