key to the EU, and while the not all member states have allowed for the free movement of labour following the latest ascension round of 2007, the free movement of
goods is seen and the impact on the commercial environment is being seen. With a large and increasing free trade area there have been shifts in the way firms
behave and compete, this is impacting on national industries. The entrance of many Eastern European nations into the union has facilitated free market access to markets where there are lower
costs and the potential for comparative advantage (OBrennan, 2004; Nellis and Parker, 2006). Tradition international trade theories, based ion the concepts of Ricardo indicate that there are benefits to
be gained from specialization (Baye, 2007). This supports the concept of the effective use of resources, and when looking at the movement of trade with increasing levels of outsourcing, and
with the ability of nations to undertake a degree of specialization there are the dynamic economies of scale (Fagerberg, 2000). Looking for proof of this impact can be seen
