stereotypical incident would be a husband beating his wife, with males as the aggressors and females or children as the victims. In recent years is has been shown that this
pattern may be the predominant pattern, but domestic violent may also see men as the victims and can take place I same gender relationships. However, the manifestation in all types
of domestic situation tends to reflect the dominant paradigms (McClennen, 2005). Therefore, when looking at the harm suffered by women and children due to domestic violence the same lessons and
patterns may also be transferred. In focusing on women the same impact is seen with children, but arguably creating even longer term problems and more likely to create an abusive
and violent cycle. To understand the impact of domestic violent on women and children we first need to consider some definitions and then look at the prevalence of domestic
violence. The definition of women is simple, in terms of this paper we will define a woman as a natural born female who is over the age of sixteen at
the time the violence takes place. Children are defined as individuals under the age of 18 who are the natural or adopted children of one or more people in the
household. The definition of what we mean by violence may be more difficult to define as well as measure. Violence and abuse is a wide ranging topic, physical violence
