States. However, in this paper we will ague this point, stating the nineteenth century developments in communism in Europe had an unexpected result in the US, which had a lasting
impact. The influence is not what we would expect, the model that emerged was one that rejected communism, where it had formerly been indifferent to the structure. The country which
had evolved as a combination of mercantilism and free enterprise had a detached attitude towards communist ideals to begin with, however towards the end of the nineteenth century we see
a strong anti communist stance emerge. To look at this we first need to define what we mean by communism, and consider the emergence that was seen in Europe
that trawled across the Atlantic. Then we can consider why it had the argued result opposite to that intended. Communism may be seen as an ideal where all in
the society are equal, they have equal living conditions, and there are no forms of discrimination or inequality. The idea states that wealth and property should be distributed equally, or
alternatively that the state would hold the property collectively and then was managed. The problem with this model is that for it to work there is a requirement for all
within the system to be committed and abide by the principles. The most important communist development in the nineteenth century was that of Karl Marx. When we look at Karl
Marxs Communist Manifesto we can see it not only as a political work, but also a an historical work that indicates the views of some people at that the time
