comprehensive and organised approach to the research to produce good reliable results. This report will start with the research strategy, identifying the systems and tools that will be used to
search for information. The paper will then present the information this strategy revealed and then reviews the strategy used considering the quality of the information found. 2. The Development of
the Research Strategy To approach this subject and avoid confusion of the many different sources we will use a simple seven stage strategy which can be used to produce the
information needed which will be put together in the literature review. The first stage is to identify the topic and clarify the research questions. Here we have the topic
of cocaine use in pregnancy, but we do not have a research question. To clarify this and give a more defined research area we will rephrase this as a question,
such as what is the effect of cocaine use in pregnancy, we may also add to this, such as what re the short and/or long term effect on children whose
mother took cocaine during pregnancy. The second stage is to undertaken some background research, using sources such as encyclopaedias or reference books to identify some pertinent areas and also
identify some key terms. This will help give a broad context to the research as the main part of the literature review takes place. This may also include the use
of a spider diagram or mind mapping to develop areas of research which may be followed and to record ideas. For example, we may draw the following; This
ca be added to as the research continues and will indicate areas that can be considered. However, not all areas need to be researched, the student can then choose which
