linked not only to the performance of staff while in their employment but the ethical and moral, as well as legal duties, that employers have in caring for their employees.
There are a number of influences which impact on the health of workers, from personal influences to the way that jobs are performed.
Over time different occasions issues have arisen and the occupational health policies may adapt to met those needs. Some of the influences have been under the control of the
employers, such as exposure to the substances. Other influences on the health of employees and occupational health policies have emerged more gradually from wider forces. These have included the changes
in demography in the workplace, shifts in the industrial structure in the labor market. These have all had an impact on the health of workers and either have, or are
indicating the need for changes in occupational health policies to deal with these changes. In this paper we will look at some
of these macro environmental changes including changes in the demographics of workers, such as the gender and age changes. Then we will look at changes in the industrial structure including
shifts in the type of jobs that are offered and the times of day that workers maybe needed. When the different influences are appreciate and their health implications considered it
