perpetuate the notion that the desire to reject ones preferred gender identity is natural. In other words, the film seems to accept the protagonists desire to be a man as
acceptable, when the truth is that this is far from the case. It just might be that the main character, who is based on a real individual, is far from
normal. In todays society it seems perfectly acceptable for sex change operations to occur. Although perhaps twenty years ago it was not considered "normal," today people accept it
when individuals say that they feel as if they are a woman trapped in a mans body, or a man trapped in a womans body. The dilemma begins early when
a boy tries on girls clothing and acts effeminate. There is a tendency for parents to try to push the individual towards their given sex. Babies are born either boys
or girls, and that is what is encouraged. Yet, while society has come to believe that gender is natural, there is a case for the social construction of gender. While
there is a good case for that aspect, there is also a case for notions that concern the biological nature of gender. Indeed, boys tend to like football and rough
house almost from birth where girls seem to mature into beings who like to talk on the telephone a lot. These stereotypes are to an extent learned, but one has
to wonder how much of this is natural. After all, moms yell at their sons to stop wrestling around and parents do not teach their daughters to run up large
