needlessly, and as simply a part of war that cannot be helped. It is unfortunate, but civilians get in the way of an attack and life is lost. Those on
the offense feel bad about this but realize that it is simply inevitable. For example, CNN televised the Gulf War in the early 1990s and people watched as if they
were viewing a suspenseful film. While loss of life was minimal, people watched and worried about casualties because the fighting had been brought into their living rooms. Today, as George
W. Bush contemplates war, people protest, but it is unlike the protests of the 1960s. This is post-Vietnam, when people have seen what war can be like and how it
can be unjust. Although many support military action in the Middle East, they would not support dropping an atom bomb on the country for example. And while that goes without
saying, one can imagine that in the 1940s people were not as reluctant to engage in war or drop bombs. Something has shifted since World War II. There has been
a general ideological change in the minds of the people and this has been witnessed also in terms of strategy. The development in terms of warfare has changed
the nature of warfare since World War II. One can see this in the types of wars that are fought now. Since 2001, on every Americans lips is the notion
that "this is a different kind of war," when referencing the war against terrorism. This chilling sentiment rings true as the U.S. plans military action, but the people know what
