others are relatively short. This paper considers the human life span, life expectancy, human developmental periods and contemporary concerns with life span development. Discussion We think of life span and
life expectancy as being the same thing, but there is a difference. The term "life span" refers to the "number of years an individual from a given species can live"
(Stibich, 2007). The current accept figure for humans is 122 years, credited to one Jeane Clament, from France (Stibich, 2007). There are claims that others have lived longer, but none
has been substantiated (Stibich, 2007). Life expectancy, on the other hand, refers to the "average number of years a person can expect to live" (Stibich, 2007). One of
the goals of the medical community is to narrow the gap between the life span and life expectancy-between how long we can live and how long we do live (Stibich,
2007). There are a number of theories about human development; the authors of these ideas include Freud, Jean Piaget and Erik Erikson among others. Well consider Eriksons theories here. Erikson
posits eight stages, each with distinctive strengths; the eight are as follows. Stage 1, is Infancy, covering birth to 18 months; at this time the ego development outcome is "trust
