"stories", their "mythologies" and their religions to explain their presence on earth and their relationship with it and the other creatures around them, modern man must have scientific proof of
his relationship and condemns any reference to a Creator or God as simple cultural fabrications made up to satisfy our own questions at a time much earlier in history when
science was not "advanced" enough to offer other explanations. This progression from our inherent faith in our belief system to an inherent questioning of that belief system occurred over
time. The presentation of the variety of gods, their relationships, and their power (or timai) in the Homeric Hymns are exemplary of one particular stage in the evolution of
the way the world viewed gods, religions, and mythologies. Mankind expresses his belief in the presence of a greater being or
beings in a variety of way. Some cultures recognize only one god and then appoint a variety of other related beings to fill different religious needs while other cultures
recognize a number of gods. The values of the respective culture are reflected in the manner in which the religion of that culture is structured. The Homeric hymns
provide insight to that structure. The Homeric Hymns are believed to have been written between 800 B.C. and 300 B.C. In addition
